There are many important issues facing our planet. It may seem overwhelming, but there are a lot of simple things we can do as individuals to effect positive environmental change. Here are a few tips and ways to get started!
CONSERVE NATURAL RESOURCES
Conserving natural resources has become increasingly important in a time where water supplies are dwindling, deforestation is becoming a global issue, and growing greenhouse gases continue to adversely affect climate change.

REDUCE WASTE / RECYCLE
Solid waste, hazardous waste, and pollution are all problems facing the global community, not just the United States. Reducing and reusing waste are important solutions to this growing problem. Learning how to properly dispose of hazardous waste, and how to reuse common waste items in composting or other ways as well as learning what you can and cannot recycle are all easy ways to be part of a solution instead of adding to a growing problem.
LOWER YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
Global warming is the climbing temperature trend across the entire Earth since the early 20th century, and most notably since the late 1970s, due to the increase in fossil fuel emissions. So what does this all mean and how is it affecting our earth? Global warming leads to rising temperatures of the oceans and the earth’s surface which results in the melting of polar ice caps, rise in sea levels and also unnatural patterns of precipitation such as flash floods, excessive snow or desertification. Greenhouse gas emissions significantly contribute to global warming, and although greenhouse gases do occur naturally they are significantly impacted/increased through human activities.
Knowing what your carbon footprint is and how you can reduce it are simple ways to fight this problem head-on.
SUSTAINABLE ENERGY RESOURCES
There are many different types of renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy, and biomass energy. These types of energy sources are different from fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas in that they come from sources that are naturally replenishing, but flow-limited. Renewable energy is an important player in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
